Tobacco Use Prevention and Cessation:

  • There's a new episode of the New York Times Presents on Juul coming out this weekend that we've got on our playlist. Watch the trailer and learn more about Move Fast & Vape Things and tune in to Hulu on Friday night to watch the entire episode.

Active Living:

  • Safe Routes Partnership has developed state report cards which provide a snapshot of how supportive each state is of walking, bicycling, and physical activity for children and adults as of 2020.

Access to Healthy Foods:

  • NCAH is proud to participate in the Healthy North Carolina 2030 project, which brings together experts and leaders from multiple fields to inform the development of a common set of public health indicators and targets for the state over the next decade. These indicators will serve as the population health improvement plan for the North Carolina Division of Public Health. With a focus on health equity and the overall drivers of health outcomes (health behaviors, clinical care, social and economic factors, and the physical environment), these indicators and targets will help drive state and local-level activities, provide a springboard for collaboration and innovation, and develop a new vision for public health in our state to improve the health and well-being of all people of North Carolina.

Back On Track

Things are getting back on track with the budget. Appropriations chairs in both chambers met late this week. We understand that the General Assembly intends to negotiate with Governor Cooper before passing the budget, likely by mid-October. This is great news, as it could mean a veto is less likely.

While we continue to advocate for our priorities in this budget, we are also planning for next year. Our membership will be meeting on Monday, October 18, at 1 pm to finalize the policy agenda for the 2022 legislative short session. Not a member or not sure? Contact Katie. Join today and then join us on October 18!

Want to receive more in-depth policy updates? Our members receive weekly legislative updates and helpful advocacy insights and resources. Join today!
